200 young talents and enthusiastic teachers at the International STEAM Festival at Obuda University!

Companies, experts, educators and students met at the International STEAM Festival, this one-day, highly successful event.

The program consisted of a scientific competition, workshops and an exhibition, where participants competed in three age groups and three topics. Their projects and experiments were presented in the imposing hall of Obuda University to the members of the jury, representatives of technology companies, and professionals working at different levels of education.

The main goal of the festival was achieved: creators, thinkers and students committed to the field of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) could meet in a common, inspiring space. The event became truly international, with delegations from Luxembourg, Finland, Belgium and other countries participating. A real international forum was created, where experiential learning played the main role.

STEAM leaders and experts had a direct dialogue with primary and secondary school exhibitors and competitors, while  representatives of the Hungarian Association for Innovation and  the Ministry of Culture and Innovation were also actively present, both in the jury and in the organization.

Prof. Dr. Enikő Maior, Vice-Rector for Education of Obuda University emphasized at the event: “This festival is not just an event – it is a vibrant ecosystem of ideas, experiments and collaborations.” She emphasized that Obuda University is committed to creating a smarter and more sustainable world and is proud to play the role of the national hub of the Hungarian STEAM Platform.

Zoltán Márton, head of STEAM Office of Obuda University and Hungarian STEAM Platform, said: “Behind every great project there is an inspiring teacher – and this is exactly the openness that Hungary needs.” He emphasized that the true essence of STEAM lies in what the festival also showed: connecting science, technology, art and people – in order to dream up and build a more liveable, better world.

He also emphasized: This special event would not have been possible without the tireless work of dedicated professionals and supporting communities working in the background. Thanks are due to the two excellent colleagues of the STEAM Office, Dóra Arany-Barna and Sándor Kirchhof, who played an outstanding role in the success of the festival with their professional expertise and organizational skills.

We are grateful to the science working group of the Orchidea School, especially Dóra Oláh and Noémi Békei, for their dedicated work, who greatly contributed to the quality of the program with their previous Science Fair event, enthusiasm and professional commitment. Special thanks are due to the Student Union of Obuda University, who provided indispensable support for the organization of the event with their enthusiastic cooperation, flexibility and exemplary attitude.

Last but not least, we would like to express our gratitude to the supporting organizations (Milena Y. Krumova (European Institute for Technologies, Education and Digitalisation), Adrienn Ranga (Ministry of Culture and Innovation), Balázs Virag (Balázs-Diák), Dr. Kristof Fenyvesi (Experience Workshop; University of Jyväskylä), Prof. Dr. László Jakab (Hungarian Association for Innovation), Dr. Gábor Soós (Hungarian National Commission for UNESCO), István Buti and Sára Sugár (Abacusan Studio), Istvan Ketler (EPAM), Dr. Zoltán Fodor (Lycée Edward Steichen, Luxembourg), Benedek Szajbely (Griffsoft), and to our esteemed jury members (Andrea Kállay (Óbudai Nagy László Magyar-Angol Két Tanítási Nyelvű Általános Iskola), Adrienn Garamszegi és Cseperke Szentpétery-Varga (Eötvös Loránd Ált. Iskola és Magyar-Angol Két Tanítási Nyelvű Ált. It was a special honor that the guest of honor and international patron of the event was Dr. Kristóf Fenyvesi, senior researcher at the University of Jyväskylä in Finland. As the  STEAM Director  of the Experience Workshop, he held a geodesic dome building workshop that made the day a real experience and a lasting experience for the participating students.

We were also very pleased to welcome Dr. Milena Y. Krumova from Bulgaria,  founder and director  of the European Institute for Technologies, Education and Digitalisation and CEO of EduTechFlag. In addition to his speech that shared valuable thoughts, he took an active role in the international jury for a whole day, thus raising the professional level of the festival.

The event was attended by representatives from member states of the EU STEM Coalition, further confirming that the international STEAM community is truly cross-border and united—a network where collaboration, knowledge sharing, and a shared vision are stronger than anything else.

Valuable prizes awaited the best performing teams in all age groups and thematic areas  of the competition. In addition, the jury awarded several special prizes, which  were implemented with the support of Abacusan Studio, the Hungarian Association for Innovation, Kyndryl and UNESCO. The competition was extremely close and exciting – the high quality, creativity and scientific basis of the entries made a deep impression on the jury. Many projects have offered innovative solutions to real-life problems, reflecting the maturity of young people’s thinking and the inspiring work of teachers.

All participants deserve recognition, as participation is a serious achievement in itself, and the works presented prove that the future generation is full of ideas, talent and commitment.

Thank you Judit Sarai for the great photos!
