Rewarding STEAM innovations in higher education: The Lueny Morell Award

The Lueny Morell Award for STEAM Innovation in Higher Education recognizes relevant initiatives in educational innovation implemented in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM).

An educational innovation initiative can be: (1) an initiative implemented by a single teacher or a group of teachers within their own course(s) or (2) an institutional initiative within one or more programs, a school/department, or a university. In the latter case, the application must be led by the person responsible for the initiative within the institution.

With this award, the InnovaHiEd Academy wishes to honor the memory of its founder, Lueny Morell, who was capable of connecting people and organizations to improve education, exerting a global impact.

The award in its current form is organized by the InnovaHiEd Academy in collaboration with the International Federation of Engineering Education Societies (IFEES), the Global Engineering Deans Council (GEDC), and the International Society for Engineering Pedagogy (IGIP). Sponsorship is provided by CTI Global and IAOE, with the support of Waldemar Ramírez Beiso (Lueny Morell’s husband).

The initiative deemed worthy of the Lueny Morell Award will receive a financial compensation of 1,000 USD, as well as coverage of expenses related to participating in the award ceremony held during ICL 2024 in Tallinn, Estonia, between September 24–27, 2024.

Lueny Morell was the founder of InnovaHiEd. Her tireless spirit and boundless generosity turned her initiative into a space where colleagues from different parts of the world could meet and, in many cases, become friends—both with her and with each other.

Due to her untimely passing, her friends and colleagues carry forward the guidance learned from her, keeping her initiative alive by honoring her memory as she would have wished: by teaching, creating, and serving.
