V. From Alphas to Omegas Family Picnic – Digital child well-being, STEAM and equal opportunities outreach event

How can a carefree childhood be preserved in a world filled with digital devices? This was the question we sought – and found – the answer to on March 29, 2026, in Gödöllő, where, within the framework of the V. From Alphas to Omegas – Family Picnic organized by EduTech Hungary, the STEAM Office once again demonstrated that conscious technology use does not separate generations, but rather brings them together.

Within the walls of the House of Arts in Gödöllő, it was not the cold glow of screens that dominated the day, but the joy of creating together. The STEAM Office of Obuda University (as well as the Hungarian STEAM Platform) considers it a key mission to ensure that digitalization is not a solitary activity, but rather a gateway through which children’s creativity and problem-solving skills can flourish.

An experience-based universe

The hundreds of visitors who came to our stand were welcomed not with theoretical lectures, but with real, tangible experiences, because we believe that the competencies of the future – critical thinking and collaboration – can best be developed through the combination of carefree manual and digital exploration.

In the spirit of experiential learning, logical and construction games took center stage at our stand, introducing even the youngest participants to the basics of engineering thinking through the joy of physical creation. Through spatial construction and strategic planning, children unconsciously acquired the steps of complex problem-solving, while our interactive STEAM missions stimulated their imagination at the intersection of science and art. In this supportive environment, guided by the attentive support of our mentors, every participant could experience that technology is in fact a tool that empowers us to bring our own ideas to life.

As one of the day’s key professional highlights, we successfully introduced visitors to the SOBER project. This initiative, supported by Erasmus+, is built on the recognition that today “atypical” developmental pathways have become the norm, and therefore education must also adapt to children’s changing needs. Within the framework of the project, we presented a comprehensive digital development program specifically designed to strengthen the fundamental skills of children with special educational needs (SEN), learning difficulties, or those at risk of dropping out. These skills include perception, concentration, memory, and fine motor abilities.

Visitors were able to explore the project’s innovative toolkit, which integrates engineering practices into science education, bringing the world of STEM closer to everyday life. Parents and educators found it particularly inspiring to see the digital online platforms and methodological guides that help compensate for disadvantages and ensure experiences of success within school environments as well. Through the presentation of the SOBER project, we highlighted that the greatest strength of technology lies in social cohesion and in creating equal opportunities.

By the end of the Family Picnic in Gödöllő, the STEAM Office’s philosophy became clear: technology is valuable when it builds communities and supports the individual development of children. The feedback from families confirmed for us that there is a tremendous demand for spaces where digital innovation and an inclusive mindset meet. We thank everyone for the many smiles and sparkling eyes, and we hope that next time we will once again push the boundaries of a conscious and creative future together.
