STEM Task Force Meeting

Organising international EU STEM coalition task force meetings for the European STEM orientation!

Óbuda University is a founding member of the Hungarian STEM Platform and thus a member of the EU STEM Coalition. Óbuda University has a long experience in the field of cooperation between education and industry, as well as in the organisation of various forms of scientific competitions and activities, and is therefore well placed to give impetus to a national pilot programme in Hungary.

The aim of the “Hungarian STEM Platform” is to provide unified coordination and support to STEM education development programmes in Hungary, thus promoting the popularisation of STEM education and increasing the number of participants in STEM education. The “Hungarian STEM Platform” achieves its objectives in close cooperation with companies, government and stakeholders from the education and non-profit sectors. Hungary is represented in the EU STEM Coalition by the Hungarian STEM Platform.

In higher education, the trend in mathematics, science, engineering and information technology (MTMI/STEM) is for the number of applicants and admissions to stagnate or slightly decrease, rather than increase. In 2015, 24.47% of all applicants applied for MTMI studies. Higher education cannot keep pace with the growing demand for specialists in the national economy. Reducing the shortage of MTMI graduates is key to Hungary’s competitiveness.
